Airtel theme tune - A R Rahman, played on flute by Naveen Kumar

You need to go to the end of the video for the theme tune. This melody is quite easy to play.

Mumbai theme - A R Rahman, played on flute by Naveen Kumar.

This is a nice piece composed by A R Rahman. It is a little difficult to play because it is quite fast in places and a lot of tecniques are used on the flute. Naveen who plays the tune on the flute uses a lot of ornamentantion - I have not included all the ornamentation in the notation below so you will need to listen and try to copy Naveen's ways of ornamenting the music. Some note clusters are played really fast as grace notes. Remember also that the notation given below is only approximate and you may notice some differences - just listen and try to copy.

Kisna Theme Tune "Him hain is pal yahan - A R Rahman, played on flute by Naveen Kumar

The tune is originally played with an A bass flute. There is an alternative version of this song played with an E bass but with different notation. The notation given below is for the main version used in the film and for the song "Hum hain is pal yahan". In any case you can play it with any key.
The notes to this tune are not difficult to play but the song is difficult to play for beginners because you need to make the music flow as much as possible using meend (See advanced techniques page). Remember also that the film version has had a lot of studio work done on it with professional equipment and that is why it sounds so smooth - also if you are a beginner, remember that Naveen has been playing for many years and is one of the top flutists so if your version is not sounding as beautiful - just remember that you need a lot of time to sound this good.
Notice also that the song uses "Shuddha ma - pure ma" (produced by opening half of the Ga hole). This is represented with a small "m" to distinguish it from "Ma tivra" which is usually written with a capital M.

Hero Theme tune

The tune is originally played with an E medium natural flute but can be played more or less in any key, although it will sound a little different.

Remember where there are no gaps between notes and notes are clustered like ggGGM, this means that particular piece is played a little faster. This melody includes a half note which is komal ga.

Jana Gana Mana - Bapu version

This version is played on a C sharp medium flute but can be played with key as long as you don't listen to the music at the same time, however you will need to know the tune to be able to play it. Not at all easy to play if you're a beginner because the music uses a lot meend (glissando), especially if you want to make the music flow but here is more or less the notation without pointing out glides and ornamentation
(Notice how the music flows continuously and with no gaps - this is very important in Indian music and you should try to copy)

Titanic played by myself on bansuri.

This version is played on a F medium flute. The 1st video is played with the natural sound of the flute and the 2nd is with reverb to give it that special effect of the original irish whistle song.
